Newbie advice for 1st aeg

Post by Tim on Mon Apr 14 2008, 14:46

does anyone have any opinions on the best choice for a first aeg. Not looking to break the bank. Saw galaxy mp5 k and mp5 pdw on eirsoft for 89 and 99 euro respecticely. Going for something small, that holds a lot of ammo!
Thanks

tbh the galaxy brand are real crap.
i had a galaxy mp5 , didnt last one skirmish , better to spend a few quid and get something thatll last .

+1 for the sportline , or the m4a1.

I have the MP5 A2. The one with as much metal as possible and it cost considerably more than the price mentioned in the original post. It feels weighty but not overly heavy.

I reckon that for something to last you gotta pay a reasonable amount of money for it. i.e mostly you pay for what you get. Remember that at a skirmish the airsoft device will take a battering, so something as durable as possible really is a must.

Spend a little more now and you won't end up having to replace a cheaper unit.

I concur with the post over me. I bought a Well MP7 to check it out for my previous club. It delivered 118 fps out of the box. That means I actually had to have the high ground or shoot in a arc. Not very milsim to say the least. Last crono of it showed 108 fps in -5 C. So it seems seemingly stable at a very low fps, although you can't be sure if the weapon actually works out of the box. A CA or TM is guaranteed to work, and are easier to repair/modify afterwards if you should want or need to. My first gun were a secondhand TM MP5.

Just my two cents worth. I agree with the fact that you will have to shell out at the end of the for a good aeg, but I will say this, all the aegs people have recomended in thier posts are the aegs that the liked. if your looking for your first aeg, think about all the army/action films/military documentries that you have seen and what real world weapon you like the look most of and see if tm, classic army, star etc produce that weapon in an aeg. myself I started out with a tmp90 simply because i'm a stargate fan. i have people tell me that it was a butt ugly aeg but for myself i like the look of it. at the end of the day, remember, its your aeg, its your money and its your choice.

well in this context the word weapon is correct as i mean choose your favourite real world weapon and the select the best version that is avaliable as an 'aeg' im not calling anything airsoft related a'weapon' Razz you should know me bounce

Thanks to everyone for your input. There are a few of us thinking about getting aeg's. neither of us have our hearts set on any particular model. After some discussion we figured the best choice would be something that has full auto, holds alot of ammo, is reliable, and is relatively small/lightweight. We were looking at the mp5 because of the size and folding stock, looks like we'd be able to use it with one hand without too much trouble. Sounds like if we're gonna get the mp5 it should be TM or CA.
Thanks again

tim,

with an mp5 an absolute must is a hicap mag (at least one ) and a spare battery

theres a few lads with TM mp5 at CTG , why not ask for a blast of one next time?

I would agree with chosing an Airsoft device that you like the look of.

For me it was more of a practical choice. What would suit my interests best and that narrowed down the selection a good bit. The MP5 seems to suit what I like best. Mightn't be the sexiest looking unit in the world and to be honest probably wouldn't be the one I'd choose for its looks but it was the one that suited best in terms of weight, amount of soild construction.

Definately buy a spare mag, but I'd advice that for any Airsoft device perhaps the only exception being a Sinper rifle as you'd probably have a backup anyways.

My model of MP5 A2 is by Classic Army and I must say that I'm growing to like it more and more every time I use it. Funnily enough I like the Semi-auto mode over the full auto, but that's just my personal mentaility of make every shot count Wink

Ozzie has a few crackers on sale. The TM G36C, fantastic piece of kit. Folding stock, railing for all your Gucci accessories and the availability of hi-cap mags that easily clip together Not to mention cheaper then the MP5. Well built and weighty. The CA version is also a mint piece of kit!

Another good choice it the Star M16A3, with a hi-cap mag (auto winding) there's little better at keeping the REDS, I'm mean other teams heads down Wink Go for the version with railing if possible.

Plus that large battery should last all day! Hope this helps...

This is definately up to your own taste and/or preferences to choose a weapon. And I actually ended up using my mp5 on semiauto too, although with locaps(50-30 bbs). So just go for what seems most useful for you now. You'll know soon enough if you want to continue with airsoft Wink By continue I mean use more money ofcourse Razz
